NOTD: Essie Who is the Boss

'Who is the Boss' was part of the Wedding 2012 collection and it's one of the many Essie shades I've picked up recently, which featured in my latest nail polish haul. It's a creamy, blue-grey which is pretty without being too 'in-your-face.' I applied two coats for an opaque finish and finished off with a coat of Seche Vite.

Review: Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer

'A sheer, lightweight, buildable foundation that can be worn by all skin types but especially those with acne prone, sensitive or oily skin. Providing broad spectrum SPF 20 UVA/UVB sunscreen protection from the harmful, damaging rays of the sun, Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer features an antioxidant vitamin complex that acts a free radical scavenger to protect the skin from even the most aggressive effects of the environment.'

I have the oil-free version of Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer, but they also have the original, an illuminating version and the most recent addition to the collection is the créme compact. There are 10 shades available in the range to choose from so it should be relatively easy to find a shade which suits you. I opted for Bisque, which is a good match although I could probably go a shade darker for when I'm tanned. The tinted moisturizer is packaged in a 50ml squeezable tube which is compact and allows you to easily control the ammount of product dispersed.

It's very creamy in consistency. I like to apply this with my Real Techniques buffing brush as it really buffs it into the skin and gives you a touch more coverage than if you were to apply it with your fingers. The coverage is light to medium. If you like a full coverage, this won't be for you. It evens out your skin tone and gives a very natural, dewy finish. If I have any blemishes or imperfections I want to conceal, I just add a touch of concealer. I like to set this with a dusting of powder to increase the wear time as I find I start to look shiny after about 3-4 hour's wear. The oil-free version will not mattify skin or combat oiliness, it still gives your skin a radiant glow.
I love this tinted moisturizer and I've definitely found myself reaching for it a lot, these past months. The only downside is the cost. A tube of this will set you back £33 - definitely the most I've ever spent on a foundation or face product. However, you do get 50ml of product which is 20ml more than a standard 30ml foundation, and you need a small ammount of product so a tube should last you a good few months.

Sunday Summary 003

♥ I've been off work this weekend which has been lovely! On Friday night I went round my friend's house for a girly evening and a takeaway, yesterday was a lazy day which I spent watching Sex and the City on the sofa and today I'm spending the day with my boyfriend and going to his nan's later for a roast dinner.
♥ I've now finished 50 Shades of Grey and have started reading the 2nd book in the series. I literally can't put it down!
♥ It's my mum's birthday the week after next and I've booked for us to go to a spa together for a relax and a few treatments. We're also going to visit the Bicester Village outlet so I'm trying to put some money aside for then. I love the Cosmetics Company Outlet and the Michael Kors store!
♥ In Blockbusters, my boyfriend and I found the first two series of Lost in the bargain bin for just £4 each! I also bought The Women on dvd for £2 as I wanted to see it at the cinema when it was released but never got round to it.
Products I'm loving this week:
Laura Mercier oil-free tinted moisturizer, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, Benefit Coralista, AVON Glimmerstick eyeliner, Seche Vite top coat, Essie Aparetif, Origins Clear Improvement face mask.

New Essie Polishes

L-R: Mink Muffs, Who is the boss, Bangle Jangle, Crewed Interest, Mod Squad, Bazooka, Lights

In the past two weeks I've managed to accumulate seven new Essie nail polishes - yes, seven. To be fair though, apart from the two pink shades - Mod Squad and Lights, they are all shades that I didn't have anything similar to in my collection. I purchased Mink Muffs and Who is the Boss from HQHair with a 15% off code, Bangle Jangle, Crewed Interest and Mod Squad from Fragrance Direct (where they cost a bargainous £1.99 each!) and Bazooka and Lights from Beauty Bay. I have yet to try them all out, apart from Lights which I used to paint my toes last week. It's the brightest, neon, barbie pink which looks gorgeous with a tan.

Holland & Barrett Skin Vitamins

I mentioned in my first Sunday Summary post that I wanted to get some Cod Liver Oil tablets as my skin has really been playing up and I'd heard they really help, so the other day, I popped into Holland & Barrett. I bought a big tub of 180 Cod Liver Oil capsules and after one of the girls in there recomended Vitamin E for your skin, I also purchased a tub of 100 Vitamin E capsules. You only need to take one capsule of each, daily. Now I must also mention that I'm not the best tablet-swallower but these are both 'softgel' capsules so even though the Cod Liver tablets are quite large, they're easy to swallow.
I'm not expecting these to work miracles alone - I'm also trying to eat more fruit and veg, drink plenty of water and replacing my daily cups of tea with 1 sugar to cups of my mum's green tea. Let's hope I see some improvement soon!
The Cod Liver Oil vitamins cost £14.55 and the Vitamin E cost £8.79.
Holland & Barrett currently have a buy one, get one half price offer on.

Sunday Summary 002

So this is obviously my Sunday Summary post from yesterday which I couldn't post as my internet was down but I thought I'd post it today anyway :)
♥ I dyed my hair this week using Clairol's Nice N Easy hairdye in 'Light Natural Brown.' I couldn't decide whether or not to dye it but I do like it now it's a bit darker. I love the ColourSeal tubes of conditioner you get with hair dyes. You can buy them separately now too which is good - they make your hair feel so lovely and soft.

♥ My boyfriend's booked to go away for a week, at the end of September. Although I'll miss him while he's away, it means he can pick me up a few makeup goodies in duty free. I've already started making a list - love it!

♥ I went out last night with my boyfriend for one of his friend's birthdays. It was a fun night and we had a nice meal and a few cocktails. I didn't have a clue what to wear but I managed to find a nice black peplum dress in New Look which I'll show in my next haul post. Luckily I didn't have work until 1 today too - I definitely needed a lay in!

♥ My boyfriend and I went to PinkBerry this week for the first time. We had Watermelon flavour with strawberries, kiwi, pineapple, raspberries, smarties and fruit pebbles. It was amazing! Next time I want to try the original with strawberries and nutella.

♥ I'm off work tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to having a lazy day, watching DVDs. I'm going to try my new Origins face mask too.

Products I've been loving this week

MAC Face & Body, Benefit Coralista, Lancome Hypnose, Real Techniques blush brush & stippling brush, Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour cream, E45 cream, Clairol ColourSeal gloss, Michael Kors Very Hollywood perfume

NOTD: Essie Topless & Barefoot

Topless & Barefoot may well be my favourite and most-used nail polish. It's the perfect pink-toned nude which is incredibly easy to wear as it goes with practically everything. It's a pretty, understated nude and makes you look 'polished' without being too 'in your face'. It hasn't currently been released as part of Essie's diffusion line, available in Boots and Superdrug, so it does have the long, thin brush which means it can take a little extra care when applying to avoid streakiness.

I usually purchase my Essie polishes from and they cost £8.50 each.

Sunday Summary 001

So I've decided to start a weekly 'Sunday Summary' series on my blog. I know many blogs do these posts but I always enjoy reading them and I don't tend to blog much about general things or my personal life so I thought it might be quite nice to do a sort of weekly summary/chat post every week. I've also been struggling to set time aside for my blog so I'm hoping it will be an incentive to blog and remind me to post more often.

So this week..

♥ I'm on a mission to spend less and save more. I've been spending too much recently and now my boyfriend and I have decided to start saving money each month towards a desposit, I really need to control my spending and resist the urge to buy more makeup and clothes. Although I did place orders from both HQHair and Origins this week - I have no willpower when I see special offers and discount codes in my inbox.

♥ I've seen so many girls walking round London with Victoria Secret bags since the flagship store opened on New Bond Street. I've always loved Victoria Secret, especially the undies and loungewear and I can't wait to check it out, but I know I'll end up spending more money on stuff I don't really need.

♥ My skin has really been playing up and I've got a few big spots on my cheeks and forehead, which has been getting me down. I think it's due to all the rubbish I've been eating recently so I've been trying to incoporate more fruit and veg into my diet. I also want to pick up some Cod Liver Oil tablets this week as I've heard they are really good for your skin.

♥ I've finally jumped on the bandwagon and started reading 50 Shades of Grey, after my friend leant me the first book, and I am well and truly addicted. I've been reading it on the train to and from work, every day and I've almost finished the first book. I've already bought the second and third books to read when I finish.

♥ I saw Danielle Lloyd today in London! I've not really seen any celebs in real life before so it's fair to say I was a little bit excited.

Products I'm loving this week:

Maybelline Falsies mascara, Bare Minerals Prime Time primer, NARS Orgasm blush, DIOR Amber Diamond, MAC Soft Dazzle dazzleglass creme, Yes to Carrots C Through the Dry Spell Deliciously Rich body butter, Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance leave-in conditioner, OPI Nail Envy, Essie Topless & Barefoot.

DIOR Amber Diamond

(Left to Right: DIOR Amber Diamond, MAC Soft & Gentle msf, NARS Albatross)

I'd been coveting DIOR's Amber Diamond for the longest time and I was actually planning on saving up my Boots points to purchase it, until Yu informed me that it was rumoured Dior was discontinuing their shimmer powders. So I did what any makeup addict would do - went into panic mode - I searched online until I found it available on the Debenhams website and ordered it there and then. And I'm happy to report, Amber Diamond is just as beautiful in real life as I'd hoped. The powder consists of five stunning shades - ranging from a light champagne to a golden bronze. I like to sweep my brush through the powder, mixing all 5 shades, which creates a beautiful, soft, golden highlight. The powder is so finely milled, it applies like a dream, and it has just the right ammount of shimmer to highlight cheekbones without looking too glittery or frosty. At £32, Amber Diamond is pricey, but it's truly beautiful and even though it turns out it isn't going to be discontinued in the UK, (thank goodness!) I'm so pleased I finally decided to purchase it.
